Harvard remains No. 1 on 'Top 500' list of schools

SHANGHAI, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Harvard remains atop the Academic Ranking of World Universities, Shanghai's Center for World-Class Universities announced in its "Top 500" list Friday.

The Center, a part of Shanghai's Jiao Tong University, has issued a global list of top schools for a decade, it said.

As in 2012, Harvard is first on the list, and eight of the top 10 schools are in the United States. Harvard is followed by Stanford, (University of California at) Berkeley, MIT, Cambridge (England), Cal Tech, Princeton, Columbia, the University of Chicago and Oxford (England).

Continental Europe's best school is ETH Zurich, which is 20th on the list. The University of Tokyo is Asia's best, at 21st, the Center said.
