MADRID, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- The speed limits and braking systems on all major Spanish railway lines will be examined and undergo stringent safety checks, the public works minister said.
The inspections come after a high-speed train overturned outside the town of Santiago de Compostela in July, killing 79 people.
Minister Ana Pastor said the victims of the crash have her promise that she "will not rest" until she knows "the truth" about the accident. She added a full audit of infrastructure, procedures, engines and rail cars will be conducted.
Pastor also plans to ensure better training of engineers, updated rail traffic rules and better identification of luggage, similar to procedures used by airlines, the Spanish news website ThinkSpain reported.
