OTTAWA, July 21 (UPI) -- Canadian lawmakers are considering whether it should be illegal to distribute sexy pictures of people without their consent.
The measure is part of several anti-bullying recommendations made in a report by lawmakers nationwide that was fast-tracked following the death of Rehtaeh Parsons, a teenager from Nova Scotia who committed suicide in April after pictures of her alleged rape were posted online, Postmedia News reported.
"For my part, I will consider the report and its recommendations, which will help guide the way forward to ensuring our children are safe from online exploitation," Justice Minister Peter MacKay said in a statement Friday. "I look forward to working together with the provinces and territories as we make improvements to our justice system to prevent such tragic circumstances from happening again."
The report suggests that knowingly distributing racy photos of a person without their consent be punishable by up to five years in prison.
