Flash floods kill five people in Turkey's Hatay province

ANKARA, Turkey, July 19 (UPI) -- Flash flooding caused by heavy rains in Turkey's southeastern province of Hatay killed at least five people, four from one family, authorities said Friday.

Officials said crews rescued at least a dozen people who were injured and others were reported missing, the Hurriyet Daily News reported.

Helicopters were sent to assist local authorities, officials said.

A downpour in Hatay's Dortyol district Thursday night and Friday caused the flash floods, Today's Zaman said.

Hatay Gov. Celalettin Lekesiz said six houses were destroyed.
