Thailand train derailment injures 30; damaged tracks blamed

BANGKOK, July 17 (UPI) -- Damaged railroad tracks caused a derailment in Thailand Wednesday that injured 30 passengers, four seriously, the governor of the state railway said.

State Railway of Thailand governor Prapat Chongsanguen discounted human error in the accident, which occurred in Phrae province between the towns of Pak Pan and Kaeng Luang. Seven of the 10 cars of the Bangkok-Chang Mai overnight express train derailed, the Bangkok post reported.

The railway released the names of 23 of the injured passengers, and the newspaper noted only 5 were Thais, the rest from other countries. The newspaper added the train is popular with tourists visiting Chang Mai.
