Missing British teen in Turkey found safe

MARMARIS, Turkey, July 15 (UPI) -- Missing British teen Faye Jones, who disappeared in the resort town of Marmaris, Turkey, was found safe, her family confirmed Monday.

Jones, 16, had been last seen Thursday getting into a car with Murat Can Ertani, 22, a waiter she knew, as she was about to return to Newcastle, England, with her mother, Rhonda. Police began investigating after her mother filed a missing person report, the British tabloid The Mirror reported, adding the British Consulate in Turkey offered assistance.

Georgina White, 15, who met Jones while on vacation in the city, said she had seen Ertani attempt to strangle the teenager after he became jealous when he saw her dancing with other men at a club some nights before.

White said Jones had told her afterward, "He said he would kill me and my nan [grandmother] -- I've got to keep him sweet."

White said Jones and Ertani had met in 2012 while Jones was visiting her grandmother, who lives in the resort town.

Turkish police said Ertani has a criminal record and served time in prison.

"All we know is that she has been found by police away from Marmaris, and Rhonda is on the way to meet her. Police confirmed they have her safe and well," said her grandfather, Glyn Jones, after he received a text message in England from the girl's aunt, who had just arrived in Turkey.
