LAC-MEGANTIC, Quebec, July 13 (UPI) -- Communities across Quebec held vigils for the victims of the July 6 train explosion in Lac-Megantic that has killed at least 28 people, officials said.
About 100 people gathered at Place d'Armes in downtown Montreal Friday night and quietly held candles, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.
Residents of Lac-Megantic held a quiet vigil at Ste-Agnes Friday night.
"We're trying to survive, we're keeping on, life goes on," said Patrick Champagne-Madore, who attended the vigil with his sister and two others.
The cities of Gatineau and Trois-Rivieres also held vigils for the victims of the incident.
A 72-car train carrying crude oil derailed in Lac-Megantic and then exploded.
Police said 28 bodies have been recovered from the wreckage and 22 others are missing and presumed dead, the BBC reported.
