Russian ex-cops accused of sexual assault

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, June 27 (UPI) -- The leader of a gang of former policemen in St. Petersburg allegedly robbed nine massage parlors and raped female employees, investigators said.

The investigative committee said former officer Ruslan Gubayev served in the special forces division of Russia's Federal Bailiff Service, which is responsible for enforcing court rulings.

The alleged raids took place from October to December, officials told RIA Novosti.

Gubayev has been charged with rape and robbery, as well as setting up and leading an armed criminal gang.

Rustam Mamsurov, another former officer, is suspected of sexual assault but has only been charged with robbery and participation in a criminal gang, RIA Novosti said.

Tamerlan Kardanov, the third officer, and his brother, Batrez Kardanov, also were members of the alleged gang, investigators said.
