LONDON, June 7 (UPI) -- British Prince Philip underwent exploratory abdominal surgery Friday at a hospital in London, Buckingham Palace officials said.

Philip was admitted to the hospital Thursday and is expected to stay there for up to two weeks, CNN reported.

A palace statement said the surgery went well and Philip, 91, is "progressing satisfactorily."

Philip attended a garden party Thursday at Buckingham Palace, where guests said he showed no signs of being ill.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been treated for a number of health problems in recent years, including a blocked coronary artery in December 2011 and a bladder infection in June 2012, CNN said.
