Bear attacks geologists in Siberia, kills one, injures another

KRASNOYARSK, Russia, May 27 (UPI) -- Russian police shot and killed a bear in the central Siberian region of Evenkia after it mauled two geologists, killing one of them, officials said Monday.

The Russian Interior Ministry said the incident happened Saturday as the two geologists were fishing in the Indiga River, outside a fenced-in drilling station they were working at, RIA Novosti reported.

The bear attacked the geologists, mauling one and killing the other. When police arrived they shot and killed the bear.

In September, a bear killed a geologist at a camp site in the northeast part of Krasnoyarsk territory.
