New Zealand pedophile faces prison

WELLINGTON, New Zealand, May 7 (UPI) -- A New Zealand man was sentenced to at least 20 years in prison for multiple acts of pedophilia prosecutors said were some of the worst they'd ever seen.

Aaron Ellmers, 41, a truck driver, was convicted of nearly 60 counts of child sexual abuse and child pornography. Authorities said Ellmers abused children as young as 1 year and recorded himself so he could send the video to other pedophiles.

Justice Edwin Wylie called Ellmers' actions "utterly depraved," The Dominion Post of Wellington, New Zealand said Tuesday.

Authorities said Ellmers answered a 27-year-old man's ad online offering to sell his 18-month-old son for sex. Ellmers offered the man $500 but was arrested before the abuse took place. That man has pleaded guilty and faces sentencing next month.

Ellmers was arrested in July but how police caught him was suppressed.
