KATHMANDU, Nepal, April 23 (UPI) -- An Iranian national allegedly caught with a fake Israeli passport, is suspected of plotting attacks against Israelis in Nepal, officials said.
The Iranian national named Mohsin Khosravian is suspected of plotting attacks against the Israeli Embassy in Kathmandu and Israeli tourists, Israel's Channel 2 reported Monday night.
Khosravian was detained April 13 by Israeli personnel at the embassy in Kathmandu. The Israelis were alerted to his suspicious behavior and said he was carrying a fake Israeli passport and a map, the television report said. The suspect was handed to Nepali authorities.
Nepal police said Khosravian is in custody and is under investigation because of the "frequent and suspicious visits" he made to the area near the Israeli Embassy, The Himalayan, an English-language daily in Nepal reported Sunday.
Authorities said it appears Khosravian used the fake Israeli passport to enter the country April 3 and hid his Iranian passport in his luggage, the newspaper said. Authorities said it appears he acquired the fake Israeli passport in Kuala Lumpur.
Reports indicated Khosravian has lived in Bangkok since 2004, the report said.
