PESARO, Italy, April 17 (UPI) -- An Italian lawyer was assaulted when she arrived at home by someone who threw acid in her face, police said.
The victim, Lucia Anibali, was attacked Tuesday night as soon as she entered her home in Pesaro, a town on the northeastern coast of Italy, the Italian news agency ANSA reported. Anibali, 35, practices law in Urbino, a historic city southwest of Pesaro.
Investigators say the substance involved was believed to be sulfuric acid, which causes painful and disfiguring burns. Anibali was able to call for help in spite of the excruciating pain.
Police released few details, although they said some individuals were being questioned Wednesday. Investigators said there is no evidence the attacker was angry because of a broken relationship and would not say if they believe Anibali was assaulted by one of her clients.
