ZIYANG CITY, China, April 4 (UPI) -- More than 200 elementary school students in southwest China have been hospitalized for acute gastroenteritis, local officials said Thursday.
The first student from Central Primary School in Yingjie Township fell ill and was hospitalized at 7 a.m. Wednesday, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

Since then, another 202 students have been hospitalized with symptoms that include fevers, vomiting and diarrhea. Doctors diagnosed them with acute gastroenteritis.
They are all in stable condition, Xinhua said.
An investigation into what caused the children to become ill is under investigation.
