Naples science museum rebuilding begins

NAPLES, Italy, March 9 (UPI) -- Officials said a Naples, Italy, science museum that burned down under suspicious circumstances will be rebuilt in just 18 months.

The City of Science complex, which housed a science museum that drew 350,000 visitors annually, burned down Monday, along with an accompanying education center where schoolchildren who visited the museum would congregate for further science lessons.

Education Minister Francesco Profumo said Thursday the complex will be open again in 18 months.

"The goal is ambitious," Profumo admitted.

He told ANSA News Agency builders would be held to "strict deadlines."

The cause of the blaze is unknown but ANSA said speculation abounds it was deliberately set by organized crime figures.
