PARIS, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Support for same-sex marriages in France has fallen by 5 percent to 58 percent in the last year, a poll published in Paris indicated.
The results were published in Le Parisien/Aujourd'hui en France Saturday, in the run-up to Wednesday's Cabinet vote on a bill to legalize same-sex marriages, Radio France International reported.
The number of respondents or margin of error wasn't published in the RFI report.
If the Cabinet approves the bill, it will go Parliament for a vote in January.
Dominique Bertinotti, the minister of family, has told media he's confident the bill will pass the Cabinet and eventually Parliament.
"You'll see, we will have a wonderful societal law that will be able to accommodate a maximum of family situations," he said.
In the meantime, protests have been popping up across the country, the largest of which on Oct. 23 saw 700 people in Paris calling for the bill's defeat.
Organizers of the "Protest for All" movement called for national demonstrations Nov. 17 to protest the bill that would also allow gay couples to adopt children, the report said.
Legalizing same-sex marriages was one of President Francois Hollande's campaign planks before the May election.
