Suicide bomber kills Pakistani peace chief

BUNER, Pakistan, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- The head of an anti-Taliban committee and four other people were killed Saturday in a suicide bomb attack in northwest Pakistan, authorities said.

The attack against Fateh Khan occurred in Buner district, which is believed to be a hiding place for the Pakistani Taliban, Voice of America reported.

Akhtar Hayyat, the district's deputy inspector general of police, said the bomber drove an explosives-laden motorbike into the wall of Khan's office, China's official Xinhua news agency reported.

Two bodyguards and two passersby were killed, as well as the suicide bomber, Hayyat said.

Several other people were injured.

Khan was the head of a local peace militia and a member of the Awami National Party, a coalition partner of the ruling Pakistan People's Party.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
