WELLINGTON, New Zealand, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- A 6.4-magnitude earthquake rumbled in the Balleny Islands chain between New Zealand and Antarctica Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
The quake was recorded about 207 miles south-southwest of Dunedin, New Zealand, and 1,620 miles south-southwest of Wellington, USGS said.

The depth was 6.2 miles.
The Balleny Islands are a series of uninhabited islands in the Southern Ocean.
