Bus hits truck near Beijing; 6 die

BEIJING, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- A tourist bus ran into a truck and caught fire near Beijing Monday, killing six people, including five Germans, and injuring 14, police said.

Police said the bus carrying a group of German tourists was driving on a highway between Beijing and the nearby port city of Tianjin when the bus rear-ended the truck and burst into flames, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Police said the bus driver died at the scene. Witnesses said they saw some people escape.

It was unclear how many people were on the bus, Xinhua said.

The Chinese news agency didn't report on the condition of the truck driver or his vehicle.

The cause of the accident was being investigated, police said.

Police said the tour was organized by China Youth Travel Service in Beijing.
