Mayhem when tour-carriage horse bolts

VICTORIA, British Columbia, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- A horse pulling a tourist carriage in Victoria, British Columbia, escaped injury when he bolted, throwing three people from the carriage, the owner said.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon as the Clydesdale was pulling the carriage with the driver and two unidentified tourists through the city's Chinatown area, the Victoria Times Colonist reported Thursday.

Larry Friedlander, owner of Tally-Ho Carriage Tours, told the newspaper it appeared a bus or a mirror on the bus clipped the 10-year-old horse's shoulder.

The 5-year-veteran tour horse named Sarge stopped and took two quick steps backwards, causing the carriage to jack-knife, which threw one female passenger onto the street, the report said.

The horse then bolted and sideswiped a car, throwing the carriage driver and the second tourist out of the carriage, Friedlander said.

It was subdued two blocks away and calmed down once disconnected from the carriage, Friedlander said.

The first woman thrown sustained a broken arm, but the other two people had lesser injuries, the report said.

Police are investigating, the newspaper said.
