KABUL, Afghanistan, June 30 (UPI) -- Taliban leader Maulawi Sadiq was killed during a NATO airstrike in Afghanistan's Logar province, coalition officials said.
The International Security Assistance Force said Sadiq was the target of a joint Afghan-coalition operation in Logar's Charkh district, Khaama Press reported Friday.

The Afghan and coalition security force requested a precision airstrike during Thursday's operation, ISAF said. During a follow-up assessment after the strike, the forces confirmed Sadiq was killed.
The coalition said Sadiq was an explosives expert who coordinated insurgents' movements, provided explosive materials and training to insurgents, and helped plan attacks against Afghan and coalition forces in the region.
