Boat capsizes in Indonesia; 14 missing

AMBON, Indonesia, June 17 (UPI) -- Indonesian police said 14 people were missing Sunday after a boat capsized off Maluku province in heavy seas.

The boat was on its way from the provincial capital Ambon to a nearby island earlier when it was rolled by an estimated 10-foot wave, police Capt. Zet Riry told The Jakarta Post.

Riry said 13 people were rescued but another 14, including the boat's skipper, could not be immediately located.

The Post said maritime accidents in Indonesia were common due in part to lax safety standards and frequent overloading of small vessels.
