More than half underestimate social status

SEOUL, May 19 (UPI) -- Survey results indicate more than half of Seoul citizens believe themselves to be lower class.

The results, released Wednesday, surveyed 45,605 people in the South Korean capital. It found 51.7 of people surveyed found their socio-economic and political standing as lower-middle class, while 18.3 percent considered themselves upper-low-class, and 4.4 found themselves to be low-class.

The 2011 Seoul Survey, The Chosunilbo reported, only divided class into three categories -- low, middle and high-income. On the basis of monthly income, 65.2 percent were found to be middle class, meaning people commonly underestimate their social status.
