There are 60 charges against him, including three counts of murder and 12 of attempted murder, the Swedish news agency TT reported.

Mangs has been in police custody since November 2010.

He is accused of killing two immigrant men in 2003 and a Swedish woman who was sitting in a car with an immigrant man in 2009.

He is charged with attempted murder for firing a pistol at homes, businesses and cars, authorities said.

Skanska Dagbladet reported Mangs appeared "relaxed and unaffected" while his charges were being read.

Officials say they expect the trial to last for about 25 days.
