Al-Qaida suspect arrested in Spain

VALENCIA, Spain, March 27 (UPI) -- A man arrested in Valencia, Spain, played a key role in al-Qaida's efforts to recruit terrorists through the Internet, the Spanish interior minister said.

Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz said the suspect, a Saudi Arabian citizen born in Jordan, had worked for al-Qaida as well as two related organizations, al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula and the al-Qaida Organization in the Islamic Maghreb, Think Spain reported.

The man, identified only as M.H.A., was charged with disseminating videos through the Internet encouraging people to commit acts of terrorism.

Think Spain said a property in Calle Juan XXIII was searched in connection with the arrest.

The suspect had worked from home 8 to 16 hours a day recruiting and indoctrinating Islamists and providing transportation for terrorists to Afghanistan and other areas where al-Qaida is active, authorities said.
