EU map error upsets Serbia

BRUSSELS, March 6 (UPI) -- A technical error was responsible for failing to include Kosovo on a map of Serbia published on the European Union's portal, a EU Commission source said.

The source told Serbia's Tanjug news agency Tuesday that efforts are being taken to correct the error, which was on the Web site for months before it was spotted.

It was not "a political message to Serbia that it must give up Kosovo" in order to become a member of the European Union, the EC source said.

The source said the commission's position has not changed.

"It is still status-neutral when it comes to Kosovo," the source told Tanjug.

The incorrect map came to the attention of Serbia on Monday when officials of the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia held a news conference charging that Serbia was redrawing borders.

A printed page of the EU Web site featuring the controversial map was shown at the news conference.
