LONDON, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Police made eight arrests across London Saturday as part of an investigation into corruption at The Sun newspaper, officials said.
Five reporters for the newspaper were arrested on suspicion of making illegal payments to police officers and other officials, The Daily Telegraph reported.
Sun deputy editor Geoff Webster was believed to be among those arrested, the report said.
Police also arrested three other officials, including a Ministry of Defense employee and a member of the armed forces and a police officer.
All eight were arrested on suspicion of corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1906; aiding and abetting misconduct in a public office and conspiracy.
The arrests came after News Corp., the tabloid's parent company, handed information over to the Metropolitan Police. They are part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption and phone hacking at the newspaper.
Police did not release the names of those arrested.
