KOGELO, Kenya, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Sarah Obama, stepgrandmother of U.S. President Barack Obama, said she's doing fine after a weekend traffic accident in Kenya.

Saying she didn't want the accident "blown out of proportion," Obama, who is about 90, said she only experienced some minor injuries when the driver of her vehicle lost control while trying to pass a truck, The (Nairobi, Kenya) Standard reported.

"God is with me because if you could have seen the wreckage that we came out safe, one would wonder," she said. "You can see I was not injured save for [a] small scar on my right hand and I am not even using a walking stick."

She said she had received calls of well wishes from as far away as the United States and the Middle East, The Standard said.

Obama said she and others in the car were returning to Kogelo, where she lives, from a funeral when the accident occurred.

"Our vehicle was trying to overtake a trailer, which bumped into it before the driver lost control and we rolled before landing into a ditch," an occupant identified as Masat told the newspaper.
