BEIJING, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- The South Korean Embassy in Beijing says it was struck by a small metal ball, believed to have been fired from an air gun.

Diplomatic tensions between China and South Korea are growing after a Korean coast guard officer was killed by a Chinese fisherman, Yonhap News Agency reported Wednesday

Chinese officials have been asked to boost security at the embassy. The object, described as a small metal ball, cracked a bullet-proof window Tuesday afternoon. No one was injured, officials said.

"Our embassy in Beijing requested the Chinese authorities to protect the embassy building and carry out a swift investigation and relevant measures," an official at Seoul's Foreign Ministry told Yonhap.

Yonhap said public anger in South Korea is running high after coast guard officer Lee Cheong-ho was stabbed to death Monday while raiding a Chinese vessel for allegedly fishing illegally in Korean waters.
