5.3 magnitude earthquake shakes Ibaraki

TAKAHAGI, Japan, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- A magnitude-5.3 earthquake shook the Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan Sunday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

The agency said there is no danger of a tsunami due to the quake, which is believed to be an aftershock of the March 11 magnitude-9.0 earthquake in northeastern Japan, Kyodo News reported.

There were no reports of injuries or damage caused by the 10:32 a.m. quake.

The quake was centered in the city of Takahagi in Ibaraki at a depth of 5.6 miles, the agency reported.

Earlier reports of the quake reported an estimated magnitude of 5.5 on the Japanese seismic scale of 7 and a depth of 6.2 miles.
