Three sentenced for spying for Israel

CAIRO, June 23 (UPI) -- An Egyptian court sentenced three members of an Israeli spy ring -- an Egyptian and two Israeli nationals -- to 25 years in prison Thursday.

Prosecutors said Tareq Abdel Razeq, an Egyptian businessman, attempted to recruit Egyptians working in the telecommunications industry to spy for Israel, the Middle East News Agency reported.

Razeq was arrested and tried in Cairo; the two Israeli Mossad officers were tried in absentia.

State prosecutors accused Razeq of receiving $37,000 from Mossad to spy for Israel. The three defendants were accused of working with Israeli agents from May 2008 to August 2010.
