ZHENGZHOU, China, May 7 (UPI) -- Police say they recovered 109 relics after breaking up a gang of tomb thieves in central China's Henan province.

Police arrested 14 members of the 17-member gang and were looking for the other three suspects, Xinhua reported Saturday.

The relics included artifacts from the West Zhou Dynasty, 1046 B.C.-771 B.C., as well as some dating before the founding of the People's Republic of China. More than 30 of the artifacts were later listed as being under state protection.

Police started looking for the perpetrators after a tomb near the world cultural heritage Longmen Grotto was found to have been pilfered in November 2010.
