BERLIN, April 30 (UPI) -- German prosecutors say one of three suspects in an alleged bomb plot was getting his marching orders from al-Qaida.
Ranier Griesbaum, a deputy federal prosecutor, said suspect Abdeladim K was in regular contact with a high-ranking al-Qaida leader based along the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Abdeladim K apparently had attended a terrorist training camp in a remote area of Pakistan and was in Germany illegally, Griesbaum said.
Abdeladim K, a 29-year-old Moroccan, was arrested along with two other suspects Friday after allegedly trying to purchase bomb-making chemicals in Dusseldorf and Bochum.
The BBC said the trio had been under surveillance; however, the details of their alleged target were not known. Prosecutors said they were apparently in the early stages of developing a shrapnel bomb that would be set off in a crowded place.
