Russian bank robbery funds recovered

VLADIKAVKAZ, Russia, March 4 (UPI) -- Russian officials said Friday they have recovered most of the money taken in a Monday bank robbery.

Dmitry Kopanev, head of the North Ossetian Interior Ministry's investigation department, said about $5.2 million of the $7 million stolen from the Vladikavkaz office of Bank of Moscow was recovered from one of the suspects, ITAR-Tass reported.

Kopanev said details of how investigators solved the case were to be released later Friday. There had been speculation some bank employees were involved in the robbery.

The bank's alarm system was turned off in the area of the robbery and guards were only on duty at the bank's entrance.

The robbers apparently entered the bank through a window, tied up two female employees and made off with the money.
