British: Magazine inspired terror suspects

LONDON, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Nine terror suspects arrested in England found inspiration and bomb-making instructions in an online English-language magazine, officials say.

The magazine is published by al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, The Washington Post reported. In contrast to most terrorist Web sites, which are published in heavily theological Arabic, the magazine Inspire is published in easily accessible English, the report said.

A first issue in July included the article "Making a bomb in the kitchen of your mom," was followed by a second issue in October.

The Post said the magazine revelations were the first established link between the nine suspects, some of Bangladeshi origin, and the terror campaign being waged by Yemen-based jihadists of al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula.

British police said this week that between Oct. 1 and Dec. 20, the day the suspects were arrested in raids, the nine men had researched and discussed carrying out reconnaissance on potential targets. The U.S. State Department said the U.S. Embassy in London was among the targets.

The men are to appear for a court hearing Jan. 14.
