Petraeus, Pakistani military leader meet

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. Army Gen. David Petraeus met with Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Pakistan's chief of army staff, Monday to discuss border security issues, officials said.

Officials said Petraeus and Kayani met in Islamabad and discussed checkpoints near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, with Kayani emphasizing the need for more checkpoints so terrorist activities could be better controlled, The Nation reported.

The two also agreed to enhance intelligence-sharing to help in fighting insurgents, officials said.

The Nation also reported that Petraeus praised efforts taken by the Pakistani army for controlling terrorists' movement and reassured leaders of his support.
