TEHRAN, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Iran has sentenced to death an emigre who returned from Canada for running a pornographic Web site there.
Saeed Malekpour, 35, was sentenced Saturday after being convicted earlier as "corrupt on Earth" and a "warrior against God," The (Toronto) Globe and Mail reported.
His wife in Ontario, Fatima Eftekhari, 32, said the verdict was delivered to Malekpour in Tehran's Evin Prison, where he has been jailed since soon after he arrived in Iran to visit his sick father in October 2008.
Malekpour worked as a free-lance Web designer in Canada and admitted running the site, which has since been taken down, in a televised confession in March 2009. Three days later, his father died.
Eftekhari says Malekpour's online profile was used to create the site without his permission.
In a March 2010 letter to Iranian officials, Malekpour said he was tortured and his family threatened before his confession.
Eftekhari said her husband's lawyer is appealing the case to Iran's highest court.
