Gunmen kill 11 youths at Juarez party

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, Oct. 23 (UPI) -- Gunmen opened fire on a party in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Friday night, killing at least 11 people and wounding up to seven others, authorities said.

The victims were between 15 and 25 years old, Carlos Gonzalez, a spokesman for the Chihuahua State Attorney General's Office, told CNN.

"Two vehicles showed up and started shooting" around 11:30 p.m. (1:30 a.m. ET Saturday), he said. "They used heavy weapons to do the killing."

In a similar shooting in January, drug cartel assassins stormed into another Juarez house party, killing 15 people. Most of the victims were youths who had no ties to organized crime. That shooting was termed a case of mistaken identity.
