Boy falls 28 stories to death in Calgary

CALGARY, Alberta, July 27 (UPI) -- A 10-year-old boy plummeted 28 stories from a Calgary, Alberta, apartment high-rise balcony to his death Tuesday, authorities said.

Emergency crews summoned to the Bromley Square apartment building about 2:15 p.m. found the boy's body in a back alley, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Police investigators said it appeared the fall was accidental, the Calgary Herald reported. Duty inspector Steve Ellefson told the newspaper the boy was last seen reading on the balcony, but no one saw him during the moments before he was spotted falling.

There was no structural damage to the balcony or its railing, Ellefson said.

One parent was home at the time, the Herald said.
