Father, 2 children die in Canada fire

NAIN, Newfoundland, July 26 (UPI) -- Fire engulfed a home in northern Labrador, killing a Canadian father and his two young sons, police said.

The names of the 50-year-old man and his children, ages 2 and 4, had not been released. The man's wife escaped the blazing structure and was treated for smoke inhalation, Postmedia News reported.

Cpl. Steve Conohan of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said the house was fully involved by the time police and firefighters arrived Saturday night. The fire also destroyed a vacant home next door to the one where the three family members died.

Firefighters were still tending to hot spots Sunday while investigators tried to ascertain how the fire started.
