KRAKOW, Poland, March 18 (UPI) -- A Polish court in Krakow sentenced three men to jail terms for the December theft of a sign from the Auschwitz Nazi death camp.

The men previously agreed to waive trial for the Dec. 18 theft of the sign at the prison's main gate, the Warsaw Business Journal reported Thursday.

The sentences ranged from 18 months to 30 months for the trio, who also were each fined $3,500, the report said.

The sign that spanned the roadway into the World War II death camp reads in German "Arbeit Macht Frei," or "Work Makes One Free."

It was recovered, slightly damaged, weeks after the theft.

Two other suspects are still jailed, and Polish officials are seeking the extradition of the theft's suspected mastermind, a neo-Nazi Swedish man, the report said.
