Iran opens drone aircraft production lines

TEHRAN, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Iran has opened a pair of production lines for the manufacture of advanced drone aircraft, the country's defense minister said Monday.

Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi said the drones would be capable of carrying out precise bombing missions, the state-run Press TV reported.

"The two drones, named Raad and Nazir, are capable of carrying out surveillance, detection and even assaults with high precision," Vahidi said Monday.

Iranian Air Force Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh announced that Iran Sunday successfully tested a prototype of its first stealth drone, called Sofreh Mahi, the government-backed broadcaster said.

"The drone, due to its physical attributes and the material used in its body, cannot be detected by any radar," Nasirzadeh said.

Press TV said the Vahidi's announcement came as part of the 31st anniversary of the country's Islamic Revolution in February 1979.
