Russian WWII monument to undergo repairs

MOSCOW, Dec. 25 (UPI) -- Russian officials said Moscow's famed Eternal Flame at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will be moved to a temporary location for repairs.

Vladimir Kozhin, head of property management administration at the Kremlin, said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev issued a special decree to have the Eternal Flame moved from the Alexander Garden to the Poklonnaya Hill war memorial in Victory Park for repairs, RIA Novosti reported Friday.

Kozhin said the president ordered the repairs to be completed in time for the 65th anniversary of end of World War II. He said the monument is scheduled to be moved Dec. 27 and returned to its original location by Feb. 23.

The Eternal Flame, which was lit May 8, 1967, honors those killed in World War II, known in Russia as the Great Patriotic War.
