U.K. prison guards continue wildcat strike

LONDON, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- An unofficial strike by British prison guards spread to additional facilities Wednesday, the officers' union said.

Prison personnel from the Warrington area and Lancaster joined colleagues on a picket line at the Liverpool prison that went up Tuesday to protest claims of harassment by superior officers.

The Prison Officers Association told the BBC officers at three other prisons were considering similar walkouts.

The job action was not sitting well with the Prison Service. An official said it was illegal for guards to strike, and a lack of staff increased the danger to inmates and the public, the British broadcaster said.
