NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan was set Sunday to meet Kenyan military and political leaders to discuss progress on reforms, officials said.
Annan, who was instrumental in brokering a power-sharing agreement last year that ended spasms of ethnic violence, is pushing for politicians to enact reforms to ensure a long-lasting peace, but he could be disappointed, the BBC reported.
The British broadcaster said not much has been done on goals to institute changes to Kenya's justice system, its police and its electoral process since 1,000 people were killed and 300,000 fled their homes in violence following 2007 elections.
Kenyan leaders vowed to bring the perpetrators of the violence to justice, but progress has been so slow that the International Criminal Court announced last week it would step in and prosecute some of the key instigators itself.
The BBC said politicians and business leaders are thought to be among the culprits most responsible for stirring up the violence.
