Rob Ford wins seat on Toronto City Council, brother Doug loses mayoral bid

TORONTO, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Toronto Mayor Rob Ford handily won back his old city council seat, although his brother and former campaign manager Doug fell short in his attempt to replace Rob's soon to be former position atop City Hall.

Canadian media mogul and former Canadian Football League Commissioner John Tory won the mayoral race for the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party, taking home 40 percent of the vote. He will assume office Dec. 1.

The more well-known Ford, despite his open issues with drugs, alcohol and general judgement, was committed to running for re-election until he was diagnosed with a rare form of abdominal cancer.

"It's the worst news that could ever happen," a Ford supporter lamented to CTV after Doug's defeat.

"Doug and Rob were the best to keep the taxes low and have respect for us taxpayers."

Lucky for her, Rob says the Canadian political titans aren't going anywhere.

"I guarantee: In four more years, you're going to see another example of the Ford family never ever giving up," Ford told local reporters.

"We're just warming up."
