Innocent plea from mother of dead infant

MEDFORD, Ore., Sept. 24 (UPI) -- A 19-year-old woman has pleaded innocent to criminal charges related to the discovery of the dead body of her newborn daughter in Medford, Ore.

Denise L. Flanary pleaded innocent to charges of abuse of a corpse and concealing the birth of an infant regarding the Aug. 15 discovery of her daughter's body in a garbage bin outside a Medford hotel, the Medford Mail Tribune said Thursday.

A homeless man found the infant's body outside a Holiday Inn Express hotel while searching for recyclables inside a trash bin. An autopsy was performed on the infant's body but authorities have not released the cause of death in the case.

Flanary's mother, Camille Mandel, told the media last month her daughter claims the infant girl was stillborn.

The Mail Tribune said Flanary, who is free on bail and was granted a public defender Wednesday, is due back in court on Oct. 26 for a pre-trial conference.
