LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- As firefighters continue their struggle against California's huge Station Fire, weather forecasters predict a return to the conditions that fostered it.
The National Weather Service said inland temperatures are expected to rise past 100 degrees Fahrenheit Monday, the Los Angeles Times reported. While the mercury is rising, humidity will head in the other direction, forecasters said.
"Longer period of single digit humidities ... bring the potential for critical fire weather conditions in the southland Monday night through Wednesday," a forecast statement said.
If the weather behaves as predicted, conditions in the Los Angeles area will be very like those prevailing when the Station Fire was reported Aug. 26. The blaze spread quickly through the Los Padres National Forest, charring thousands of acres and destroying more than 160 buildings, including 78 houses. Two firefighters searching for a route out for their crew were killed when their truck went off a cliff.
The Station Fire is expected to be fully contained by Tuesday.
