Another Mexican rehab center attacked

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico, Sept. 16 (UPI) -- Gunmen, for the third time this year, have attacked a drug rehabilitation clinic in Juarez, Mexico, this time leaving 10 people dead, authorities said.

The Mexican news agency Notimex said the unidentified gunmen started shooting at the Vida Rehabilitation Center about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. Three others were wounded, Notimex said.

The victims, including seven patients, a doctor and the clinic manager, were among 22 people killed in the city near the U.S. border at El Paso, Texas, Tuesday and 1,657 so far this year, CNN reported.

Juarez has experienced a sharp increase in drug-related violence since early 2008 when the Sinaloa drug cartel began a turf war with the Juarez cartel, the U.S. broadcaster said.

Eighteen people died in an attack at another rehab center this month and 20 patients at another drug facility were killed in a similar attack in March.
