MIAMI, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- All tropical storm warnings and watches were dropped early Friday as the weakened remnants of Hurricane Jimena passed Mexico's central Baja Peninsula.

The storm was downgraded to a tropical depression at 2 a.m. PDT with sustained winds of 35 mph, the U.S. National Hurricane Center reported from Miami.

The storm was moving southeast at 2 mph about 45 miles from Santa Rosalia and was expected to weaken to a "remnant low" by Saturday.

As much as three inches of rain was forecast over the peninsula and portions of western Mexico, the center said.

The report said storm surge and higher tide levels were expected to diminish throughout the day.

The Los Angeles Times reported widespread power and telephone outages in the central Baja in Jimena's wake, and at least one storm-related death.
